A marvellous land, where the Cantabrian mountains slope down to the salt marshes and the Atlantic beaches... We propose this original and refreshing holiday to finish the summer, in the epitome of Green Spain!

6 DAYS (5 NIGHTS) Activities: exploration of Cantabria; variety of visits;
walking with a choice of either 5 walks of 3-4h on occasionally steep and/or stony paths, denivellations up to +350m or 3 walks of 1-3h, denivellations up to +150m. Group 10 maximum.

EXCEPT ONE EVENING MEAL, in rooms for 2 (private bathrooms) in the comfortable posada of pretty Escalante, in the Salt Marshes Natural Park on the Asón estuary. Sample the culinary specialities of Cantabria and its excellent fish!

695 euros per person; single room supplement 115 euros.
OPTION Sunday morning spa circuit at Solares, supplement 33 euros.

Location of this programme:

FRIDAY: Short transfer to Escalante, evening meal.

SATURDAY: The beautiful mountain scenery of the Collados del Asón Natural Park. Choice of 2 levels of walking in the high glacial valleys. A tiny rock-cut Mozarabic chapel. Back at Escalante in the late afternoon, choice of the Mies de Castanedo short walk, or free time on the nearby beach of Berria.

SUNDAY: In the morning, choice of: either the Peña Cabarga walk, with superb views towards both the sea and the mountains, and some surprising archaeological remains, or a circuit in the spa of Solares (supplement 33 euros, ask us for details). In the afternoon: the caves of Puente Viesgo with possibly the world's oldest paleolithic paintings, and two delightful Romanesque churches.

MONDAY: Day at Santoña, fishing port par excellence of the Cantabrian coast and formerly an important naval base.
- Morning: visit to a cannery where anchovies are still processed by hand, a stroll in the salt-marshes of the Parque Natural de las Marismas and visit to a tidal mill.
- Afternoon with choice of: walk of Monte Buciero with splendid sea-cliffs, Atlantic coastal forest and fortifications of C16-19, or free time on the beach of Berria.

TUESDAY: An excursion to the western Cantabrian coast, including the delightful fishing town of San Vicente de la Barquera, with a panoramic walk along the ocean cliffs, and the enchanted Saja valley.

WEDNESDAY: The regional capital Santander, arriving by boat across the Bay. visit to the MUPAC, the fabulous new museum of the prehistory of Cantabria. Last lunch of pinchos, delicious tapas of a type very popular in northern Spain. Transfer to the airport.
