In December, popular Christmas songs and carols, accompanied by home-made musical instruments, take over the squares and streets of Jerez and the monuments and patios of Cordoba.
A festive holiday amongst the marvellous landscapes of the Atlantic coast and the Sierra Morena, with the historical cities of Jerez, Carmona, and Cordoba, and the Caliphal palace of Madinat al-Zahra.

9 DAYS (8 NIGHTS) Activities:
5 days with walks of 2-3 hours on (occasionally stony) paths, maximum denivellation +100m; historical visits; entrance included to the sites mentioned below. No portage of luggage; no technical difficulty. Group 10 maximum.

Festivities:

- a minimum of 4 musical evenings with flamenco and traditional songs accompanied by instruments such as the zambomba (friction drum), chicharra (a primitive rebec, made up of a gut stretched on a stick, which is rubbed to vibrate a blown-up pig's bladder), tambourine, castanets and various percussion instruments, as well as guitars and bandurrias.
- Christmas markets with local products, from sweets to models for cribs.
- Belenes (Christmas cribs) including the unique Museo del Belén of Jerez.

FULL BOARD

RENDEZVOUS Málaga, in the afternoon — choose a flight arriving before 14.30.
DISPERSAL Málaga, in the morning — choose a flight departing after 13.30.

Location of this programme:

DAY-TO-DAY
FRIDAY: Transfer to Jerez de la Frontera, where we stay 4 nights in a hotel in a quiet street of the old town.

SATURDAY: Day in Jerez: the Alcázar and the Claustro de Santo Domingo. Zambombas.

SUNDAY: A walk in the rolling Campiña de Jerez. Back in the city, Flamenco and tapas evening at the Tabanco.

MONDAY: Doñana Natural Park & the Guadalquivir estuary: salt-pans, marsh and fossil dunes, flamingoes, spoonbills, stilts, avocets... and the curious cangrejo violinista crabs.

TUESDAY: Transfer via Carmona — 4000 years of history — to Cordoba.

WEDNESDAY: Trassierra: from the Guadiato valley to the picturesque Fuente del Elefante and the village of Santa María. Madinat al-Zahra: ruins of the glorious but ephemeral city-palace of the caliphs. Las Ermitas: tiny hermitages in the Sierra Morena foothills, with an admirable view of Cordoba and its surroundings.

THURSDAY: Cordoba: Roman bridge, temple and walls; Omeyyad great mosque, water-wheel, baths and minarets; delightful squares and patios, synagogue, Mudéjar and Alfonsina churches. Discovery of three important Cordobese artists: the poet Luis de Góngora, the painter Julio Romero de Torres and the writer Antonio Gala.

FRIDAY: The Vía Verde of the Valle del Guadiato, starting from Peñarroya Pueblonuevo, formerly one of the main mining areas in Spain; picnic at the old station of Bélmez. El Vacar: one of Spain's oldest castles, it also served as a caravanserai.

SATURDAY: Transfer to Málaga.
