A holiday one day longer than usual... 8 nights instead of 7, so as to include the best scenery, history, traditions and gastronomy of western Andalusia... Ocean, dunes, mountains... sea birds, raptors... a flamenco evening, a Sherry bodega... boat crossing of the Bay of Cadiz... the cities of Cadiz, Jerez, Ronda and Seville... Roman and Moorish sites... the Natural Parks of El Estrecho, Breña de Barbate, Bahía de Cádiz and Doñana.

9 DAYS (8 NIGHTS) Activities:
5 days with walks of 2-5 hours in the Natural Parks of the Atlantic Coast and the Serranía de Ronda; historical visits; entry to a Sherry bodega and to a flamenco performance included. No portage of luggage; no technical difficulty; on (occasionally steep and/or stony) paths. Denivellations 50-700m a day. Group 10 maximum.


FULL BOARD EXCEPT 3 MEALS in rooms for 2 in comfortable hotels (private bathrooms) at Jerez de la Frontera (3 nights), Jubrique (3) and Seville (2).

RENDEZVOUS Seville, Santa Justa station (at 15.30 in March; 17.00 in April & October) or airport (at 16.00 in March; 17.30 in April & October). Rendezvous is also possible at Jerez, ask us for details.
DISPERSAL
Seville - book a train departing after 10.30 or a flight after 13.00.
If you wish to arrive beforehand or stay longer in Seville, we can reserve you the hotel we use in the Barrio de Santa Cruz (double room 60-90 / single 35-55 euros a night).

Location of this programme:

DAY-TO-DAY
SAT/SUN: Transfer to Jerez de la Frontera, where we stay 3 nights in a hotel in a quiet street of the old town. Flamenco and tapas evening at the Tabanco.

SUN/TUE: Boat crossing of the Bay of Cadiz to Cadiz city: discovery of its rich history and original architecture. Return to Jerez by the train which circles the bay; visit to the Alcázar.

MONDAY: Sanlúcar: coffee in a ducal palace and visit to a Sherry bodega. Doñana Natural Park: the Guadalquivir estuary — salt-marsh and fossil dunes.

TUE/WED: The sea-cliffs of the Breña de Barbate. The Roman fishing port of Baelo Claudia and the impressive Bolonia sand dune. Via the Mirador of Tarifa, closest point to Morocco, we arrive in the Serranía de Ronda. Three nights in the mountain village of Jubrique.

WED/THU: Across the Monarda valley to Genalguacil ("Gardens of the Vizir"), with flowered alleys, fountains and giant sculptures. Lunch at the Venta de las Cruces, optional return to Jubrique by the former 'Camino Real'.

THU/FRI: The Tras el Pueblo walk: magnificent views of the Monarda and Genal valleys, much of the Serranía, and the sierras of Aljibe and Luna. Buffet-picnic lunch.

FRI/SAT: The Peñón, between the broad Guadiaro valley and the narrow vales of the Genal. Visit with our historical topo-guide to Ronda, perched on a cliff cloven by the Tajo gorge and surrounded by the mountains of the Serranía. Transfer to Seville (2 nights here in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, heart of the old city); visit to the Real Alcázar.

SAT/SUN: Exploration of Mudéjar Seville, as well as the Cathedral, Giralda and Arenal (old port area): the world's richest city in the 16th century. Last tapas evening.

SUN/MON: Morning dispersal at Seville.
